Meet the Executive Director – Marianne McKown
ELKO – The Committee Against Domestic Violence board hired Marianne McKown as the executive director in July 2017.
From the start she was committed to ensure Harbor House and its staff would continue to be a sanctuary for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.
“CADV and Harbor House are needed in this community,” McKown said. “My goal is to continue the organization’s work and to help it grow stronger.”
McKown moved to Elko in 2002 as the crime and city reporter for the Elko Daily Free Press.
During her time with the paper, she wrote about domestic violence cases and this led her to volunteer as a board member with CADV. She resigned from the board in 2012 because of work conflicts, but kept the organization and its mission close to her heart.
After more than 17 years in the newspaper industry — of which 14 years were spent at the Elko Daily Free Press — she applied for the CADV executive director position.
McKown continues to spread CADV’s message by speaking to service groups, churches, businesses and to the community through public events.
